Abstract:
Germany and other European countries have expressway speed limits for trucks that are substantially lower than the limits for cars. They often limit trucks to a single lane. Eleven American states have lower expressway speed limits for trucks than for cars, although the difference in the limits is far smaller than in Europe. Georgia, Indiana, and Massachusetts require that trucks on expressways drive in the furthest right lane, except when passing or under certain other circumstances. Virginia has a similar provision. Several other states have considered such restrictions.
